History

Known locally as Djolio, the Lyre Arch owes its shape to the collapse of a central pillar in a wall that had already been pierced. The two remaining bays, separated by a slender column, trace the silhouette that gave the site its name.

Like every arch in the Ennedi it is unstable on a geological timescale: the fallen blocks at its foot are a reminder that the massif keeps taking itself apart, stone by stone.
