History
The Bol archipelago is the Chadian portion of Lake Chad, and the most legible: its islands are former dune ridges drowned by rising water, which gives them the elongated, parallel shape so characteristic from the air.
The Buduma — 'people of the grass' — herd the Kouri cow, a breed whose enormous hollow horns act as floats: it swims from island to island to graze. On the shores, women harvest spirulina from the surface of the pools, dry it into cakes — dihé — and sell it at market.
